WHAT IS JUMP ROPE FOR HEART?
Jump Rope for Heart is a fundraising event for the American Heart Association. This February, during a 3 week jump rope unit in PE class, students will develop jump rope skills, learn about good nutrition, and heart health. They will also be able to bring donations of any amount, which will be sent to the AHA to help save lives. In return, the students will receive thank you gifts for their donations.
Check out this AHA link: Healthy Habits Start at Home. The money raised will go toward saving lives. For example, in 2016 the AHA funded 95 research projects (approx. $13.5 million) related to pediatrics, or congenital heart disease. They have also funded CPR training in many Middle and High schools across America, as well as, advocating for nutrition wellness in our schools.
THE DEADLINE FOR DONATIONS IS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16TH, 2019.
LET'S KEEP JUMPING INTO GOOD HEALTH:
Jump Rope Challenge: (Coming Soon!!)
To continue the good work, I have set a jump rope challenge to all students. They need to try and do a certain number of jumps, consecutively, with a jump rope. This will help build cardiovascular endurance and improve jump rope skills. The goal for your child's grade is below:
Kdg: 25, First: 35, Second: 55, Third: 75, Fourth: 100, Fifth: 130, Parents/Teachers: 50
The Challenge was intended for recess, but many students really wanted to practice at home as well. So, I thought this would be a great way for parents to help their child to achieve the recommended 60 minutes of daily, Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA), and improve their child's jump rope skills with lots of practice. It's a double whammy!! This challenge is a great way of meeting that goal. Here are the rules:
1. Your child must turn the rope themselves (Kindergarten may get help with this)
2. The jumps must be consecutive, no stopping
3. They must reach their grade level goal number or higher. (see above)
4. If successful, sign this form and return it to me.
